Mack LMSW Lowbed Tractor with Hyster Folding Gooseneck Trailer

Although they could haul most anything the folding gooseneck was great for paving machines and trenchers. This trailer required a tractor with winch to pull the gooseneck up into latching position and then the tractor could force itself under to connect the fifth wheel with the help of the winch.
Every state had their own rules, in Maine in the 50s and 60s this rig could be permitted to haul a yard and a half shovel, a little more than a fifty ton machine.
One downside of the folding gooseneck was that it required a longer distance from the fifth wheel to the cab (or winch) so the corner of the neck would not interfere then turning. The "geep" (Rogers called them a gooseneck dolly) dolly was equipped with an in line pin on the centerline that could be engaged to the tractor so the rig could be backed up like a normal tractor trailer.
This HO scale model is built so there is clearance for sharp turns but only about two inches. The trailer is built entirely of styrene except for the deck planking which is 2x6 wood. Sheepscot 11.00-20 tires are on the trailer and geep.
