Autocar Cabs with Sleeper Box

Autocar Cabs with Sleeper Box

Here’s a couple of conventional cabs with a sleeper box installed. I don’t know who was the manufacturer of the 46” boxes were but they are in scale and look great.

The maroon DC Autocar with axle set forward is Sheepscot kit number 95127 with a 199” wheelbase. It has dual air cleaners and exhausts and is shown pulling Sheepscot 32 foot trailers kit number 95082.

The yellow tractor is Sheepscot kit number 95126 with a 186” wheelbase. This would normally be a heavy duty day tractor but the need to deliver at greater distances with the Sheepscot kit 95051 Oil Field Flat made the addition of a sleeper a valuable addition to the fleet.

Both trucks have the necessary license plates required for every state they pass through back in the mid 1950s. Notice one of the trucks has no mufflers. During this time when super chargers and super chargers were a new feature truck owners would argue they didn’t new mufflers because the super chargers would quiet the exhaust sufficiently.

The images at the bottom I hope will give those that are less than familiar these set-ups a better idea of how the fuel tanks and exhausts are installed. Notice the yellow truck has the nose setting lower than a normal heavy tractor. This is prototypically correct because of the heaver suspension on the rear and the easier riding lighter suspension on the front. The exhaust is hanging kind of low which was common when modifications to the engine and transmission were done in the owner’s shop a few years after being delivered new.

The PUC and ICC numbers are on the side of the sleeper can be found on our decal numbers 46 and 47. The diagonal stripes on decal number 68.
